Pulwama, Aug 17 (KS): A youth from South’s Kashmir’s Pulwama district has selected for the Pro Kabaddi League, with a base price of nine lakh
Amir Hamid Wani son of Hamid wani resident of Dadoora Pulwama has become the first player from Jammu and Kashmir to be selected for the Pro Kabaddi League.
Aamir while talking to Kashmir Scroll said that he was interested in Kabadi since childhood and has been training at Mid Line Academy in Mumbai for last four years.
He said that he has worked hard for the last four years after playing at different levels and finally he was sold jaipur pink panthers.
I am sure that I will be able to perform well in the coming competitions and my aim is to represent India, he said.
He thanked his coach Aniket Mhatre and J&K Kabadi Association for their support during ups and downs.
He said that though there are indoor stadiums, most of the youth are interested in Cricket in J&K and very less are interested in Kabadi.
He said that they are talented and if they get interested in it and they are properly nourished, they can do wonders.
Ab Hamid Wani, his father said that Amir’s passion for kabaddi started at Degree College Pulwama, where a physical Education Teacher Faisal from Ratnipora recognised his potential and encouraged him to purse the sport.
He said the teacher took him to Srinagar for training, after one year, Amir moved to Mumbai to follow his dreams.
He faced numerous challenges in Mumbai including financial difficulties and in order to support himself he used to sell dry fruits at his academy in Mumbai where he got trained, he said.
His father also credited coach Aniket Mhatre, saying that they are very grateful to Aniket Mhatre for his crucial role in training our son and helping him achieve this milestone.”
Notably, Amir has already represented J&K in the Yuva Kabaddi Series held in Ayodhya, Uttar Pradesh, in 2021.
Notably, Pro Kabaddi League (also known as Vivo Pro Kabbadi for sponsorship reasons) or abbreviated to PKL is an Indian men’s professional Kabaddi league.
It was launched in 2014 and is broadcast on Star Sports. It is the most popular kabaddi league in the world and its also the second most watched sports league in India after the Indian Premier League (IPL) while Puneri Paltan are the current champions of PKL—(KS)
