A 23-year-old MSc student, has tragically died due to alleged medical negligence at a private hospital in Pulwama area of South Kashmir on Saturday September 14.

According to the details, the girl identified as Saboora Arshid, daughter of Arshid Ahmad Bhat from Arihal Pulwama, was admitted to Mohammdiya Nursing Home in Gangoo, Pulwama, for a surgical procedure at around 3 p.m on September 14

Family members claim they received no updates on her condition for several hours. “Later we came to know that she had been shifted to SMHS hospital without our prior knowledge ,” they said. Upon arrival at SMHS, Saboora was declared dead.

A relative of the deceased said that, Her family, who deserved immediate updates, were not informed till much later—hours passed, and they were left in the dark, not knowing where their daughter’s body was. When they sought answers at SMHS, instead of compassion, they faced “lathi charges.”

They said that Saboora’s body was taken out secretly from the back door to return her to the same Nursing Home where the surgery took place.

In response to the incident, the Deputy Commissioner of Pulwama, Dr. Basharat Qayoom, has ordered an official inquiry, leading to the sealing of the operation theatre at Mohammdiya Nursing Home.

Additionally, the Directorate of Health Services Kashmir (DHSK) has initiated a probe into the allegations of negligence.

The DHSK has constituted a committee and it has been asked to file a report within a week and strict action will be taken against the person found Involved as per law.

The family and locals are demanding justice, calling for those responsible for the alleged negligence to be held accountable.

The hospital officials said that it is unusual for patients to die under these conditions. He clarified that the family was not informed immediately as the medical team was focused on immediate efforts to save the patient.

Meanwhile, People’s Democratic Party Youth President and Assembly Candidate from Pulwama Waheed Ur Rehman Parra expressed deep sorrow and outrage over the tragic death of Saboora Arshid, due to alleged medical negligence at the Hospital .

Parra criticized the deteriorating conditions of healthcare services in Pulwama District and other facilities within the district. He condemned the poor state of infrastructure, lack of accountability, and widespread negligence, stating that these issues reflect the government’s broader failure to prioritize the health and well-being of its citizens.

Parra urged the government to take immediate action and conduct a thorough investigation into the alleged medical negligence that led to Saboora’s untimely death. . “We cannot let this incident pass without accountability. The people deserve to know the truth.” He said
