Syed Mantaqi Memorial College, IUST organizes awareness programme on 8th “WORLD HEALTH DAY”

Pulwama: Syed Mantaqi Memorial College of Nursing & Medical Technology (SMMCN&MT),a constituent college of Islamic University of Science and Technology, Awantipora organized an awareness programme on 8th “WORLD HEALTH DAY” celebration in collaboration with SKIMS Soura Srinagar on the theme “MY HEALTH, MY RIGHT’.

As per official, “This year’s theme was chosen by World health organization (WHO) to champion the right of everyone, everywhere to have access to quality health services, education and information, as well as safe drinking water, clean air, good nutrition, quality housing, decent working and environmental conditions, and freedom from discrimination. WHO will mark its 76th anniversary and under different themes every year, continues to raise awareness among people about the health issues they deal with worldwide”.

Principal, SMMCNMT IUST, Ms Asmat Parveen highlighted the theme of the World Health Day 2024 “My Health, My Right”. She gave the introductory remarks and spoke about the current health problems, its impact and measures to prevent them and She also emphasized that more focus and attention should be given to Nursing Research in order to increase the body of knowledge.

She said the goal of the programme is to promote equitable health outcomes and ensure that all individuals have the opportunity to live healthy lives and have access to quality health services.

Medical Superintendent Dr. Farooq A. Jan in his address underscored the importance of celebrating the world Health Day. His highness enumerated the theme 2024 “MY HEALTH, MY RIGHT” and urged each one to prioritize your health and well-being. Whether it’s adopting healthier lifestyle choices, staying informed about preventive measures, or seeking timely medical care. He emphasized that all of us must take proactive steps to safeguard our health and the health of those around us and all of us must address disparities in access to healthcare, tackle emerging health threats, and promote health equity to ensure that everyone can lead a healthy and dignified life.

During the programme various students participated in the awareness programme and delivered health talks on different topics. At the end, participants displayed play-cards and posters in out patient department (OPD) to create awareness among the general public under guidance of Faculty of SMMCNMT IUST.
