Pulwama, Shopian breaks shackles of boycott history

Reports around 40 percent polling after long time

Pulwama, 14 May(KS): South Kashmir’s Pulwama and Shopian districts have broken the shackles of boycott and voters in large numbers took part in the electoral process on Monday.

Pulwama and Shopian having history of boycotts and untoward incidents have witnessed around 40 percent voting after a long time.

At dozens of polling stations people were seen in long queues waiting for their turn to cast their vote and hundreds of new voters cast their votes.

Voters who casted their votes told news agency Kashmir Scroll, that they have given their try to different things but have failed to get any positive results and this time they voted with a hope that their issues will get resolved.

They said that people have been fearing in raising their voice and they hope that winner will raise their voice in parliament.

We want special employment package for J&K and protection of land and resources and there is hope that whosoever will win will raise their issues and get them redressed.

Notably on Monday Pulwama constituency witnessed around 40 percent voting, Pampore around 39 percent, Rajpora 43 percent, Tral 38 percent and Shoian around 46 percent.

In 2004 Pulwama witnessed 6.67 percent voting, 10.49 percent in 2009, 7.67 percent in 2014 and 2.14 percent in year 2019.

In 2004 Shopian witnessed 14.68 percent voting, 18.83 percent in 2009, 22.31 percent in 2014 and 2.88 percent in year 2019.

Leaders from different parties said that they are happy over that voters in large numbers have come to take part in the electoral process to upload democratic process.(KS)
