Women must take advantage of govt schemes to become financially independent:- Humaira Farooq

Kulgam:- A lady from Kund area of South Kashmir’s Kulgam district has started a crewel work centre to earn livelihood for herself and engage others in the same work.

Humaira Farooq (25) daughter of Farooq Ahmad Shaan resident of  Pachgam Kund after passing her BA has been running this crewel centre for the last several years now to earn livelihood.

Humaira said that in year 2018, a team of NRLM department visited the area and sanitized people about different government schemes following which she joined it.

She said that after forming Self Help Group (SHG), they started taking loans from the department that started from 15000  followed by 40000  and then 1 lakh.

She said that on one lakh he along with her other group members started a crewel centre with the help of NRLM where they have been working.

“We all have been working there for the past several years now and are earning livelihood very well,” she said.

“We have been making bed sheets, Crewel curtains and other items besides supplying them to others,” she added.

As a team head, Humaira said that there is need to aware and engage people especially women in different govt schemes to get stand on their own legs.

She said that by joining SHGs of NRLM one can easily take benefit and start a small unit for herself.

“We are living in a world where everyone must earn livelihood on their own and SHGs are the better platform for rural women,” she said.

She added that women shouldn’t remain confined to government jobs or household work only rather they should make a start and they will stand on their own legs to become financially independent.
